Cambridge packs a lot into a little over six square miles of land. Harvard and MIT sit at either end, Kendall Square is lined with lab buildings and new residential towers, and in between are streets of 19th-century wood-frame houses: Victorian singles near Harvard Square and in Mid-Cambridge, worker cottages in East Cambridge and Cambridgeport, and two-families and triple-deckers in North Cambridge and Wellington-Harrington.

Those homes are beautiful, but they are old, and old houses hold dust in places new ones do not: tall baseboards, radiators, window sashes, built-in shelves and narrow stair spindles. Many have been split into condos, so there are also shared entries, back stairs and basements that need someone to look after them.

JC Cleaning of Home is a family-owned cleaning company run by Celio Dornelas da Silva from Brighton, just across the Charles River. We do regular and deep house cleaning, apartments and common areas, Airbnb turnovers, exterior house cleaning and pressure washing. Estimates are free, there is no visit fee, and if something was missed we come back and fix it at no cost.

Old wood-frame houses, condo conversions and graduate student apartments

Victorian and Greek Revival houses in Mid-Cambridge, Agassiz and West Cambridge have radiators, wide wood trim, high ceilings and painted or original wood floors. Dust and pet hair settle along every ledge, and old cast iron radiators collect a gray layer that a quick wipe does not touch. A deep clean in these homes is slow, detailed work, and a regular schedule afterward keeps the dust from building up again.

Many houses in Cambridgeport, North Cambridge and Wellington-Harrington have been divided into two or three condo units. Owners share front entries, back stairs and sometimes a basement laundry, and those spaces tend to get skipped because nobody is sure whose turn it is. We clean common areas on a schedule the owners agree on, so no single neighbor ends up doing it all.

Cambridge also has a large rental market around Harvard and MIT, with many leases turning over on September 1. Graduate students, visiting researchers and postdocs move in and out constantly, and landlords need units cleaned between them. Kitchens with years of grease, bathrooms with mildew in old tile grout and windows that have not been washed in a long time are common. Near Kendall Square and Alewife, newer buildings bring the opposite challenge: glass, stainless steel and stone surfaces that show every streak and fingerprint.

Salt on brick sidewalks, pollen from Fresh Pond, mildew on the clapboards

Cambridge has a lot of brick sidewalks, and in winter the salt and sand spread on them come straight into front halls and up the stairs. Spring brings heavy pollen from the old street trees, Fresh Pond Reservation and the paths along the Charles River, and it builds up on porches, sills and screens. The wood clapboard and shingle siding on older Cambridge houses holds moisture in humid summers, so the shaded north side often turns green or gray with mildew. In the fall, leaves from the city's street trees collect on front steps and back decks and stain them if they stay wet. Spring is the best time for an exterior wash, and late fall is the time to pressure wash steps and walkways before the snow.

Close by, bilingual and easy to reach

We are based in Brighton, about 4 miles from Central Square by way of the River Street or Western Avenue bridges, so Cambridge is a short trip for us. That keeps same-day visits possible when the schedule allows and makes a free estimate easy to set up.

East Cambridge has been home to a Portuguese community for generations, and Brazilian families have settled around Inman Square and Cambridge Street more recently. We speak Portuguese and English, so you can explain the job in whichever language you prefer. We work every day from 8am to 6pm, accept cash, check and Zelle, and if anything was missed we come back and fix it at no cost.

Cleaning in Cambridge: common questions

Do you clean older Victorian houses in Cambridge?

Yes. We clean radiators, wide trim, built-ins and tall windows with the patience old houses need. A first deep clean takes longer, and a regular schedule keeps it easy after that.

Can you clean the shared areas in our condo building?

Yes. We clean entries, hallways, stairs and basement laundry areas in two and three unit condo buildings. One owner can contact us for the group, and the estimate is free.

Do you clean apartments between tenants near Harvard or MIT?

Yes. Landlords and tenants call us before move-in and after move-out, especially around September 1. Ask early if you need one of those weeks.

Will pressure washing damage my brick walkway?

Not if it is done carefully. Old brick and mortar need a gentler setting than concrete. If something looks too fragile, we tell you before starting.

Do you clean short-term rentals in Cambridge?

Yes, we do turnovers between guests. Cambridge has its own registration rules for short-term rentals, and the host takes care of that part. We handle the cleaning and can send photos on WhatsApp.

How do I pay?

We accept cash, check and Zelle. There is no visit fee and the estimate is free.
